Most people who have heard about hypnotherapy have done so because of stage-show hypnosis which has often resulted in people perceiving that there is some “magic” to it. Different people have various responses to this perception ranging from fascination and intrigue to curiosity, but little understanding of how it really works.
Have you ever driven from A to B and been aware of traffic signs, traffic lights speed limits, pedestrians, other cars and the road rules but once you arrived at your destination could not remember parts of the trip? Well that’s what hypnosis is like. Hypnosis takes you on a blissful journey but you are in such a profound state of relaxation that it is like an altered conscious state …. yet you remain awake.
When you are in this altered and deeply relaxed state you are open to suggestions about whatever it is you want to use hypnosis - for. It can be such a powerful mechanism that it can help people make important shifts in chronic unhelpful habits and behaviours. For example, I have used clinical hypnotherapy on clients who want to stop smoking, reduce or stop binge-eating, stick to their diet, stop insomnia, increase their confidence in social situations, improve their concentration for exams, return to driving on a freeway after having a panic attack or accident and a range of other significant changes that are too numerous to mention.
Most people can be hypnotized, however there is a very small percentage of people who cannot … and they don’t know what they are missing out on!
